The Vigilant Citizen was launched on November 22, 2008. That was exactly 10 years ago … and, wow, was it a different time: George W. Bush was still technically the President of the United States, Donald Trump was firing people on The Apprentice, and T-Pain was dominating the music charts.
Since then, presidents and rappers have come and gone. Scandals, current events, and controversies have occupied everyone’s attention to ultimately fade away forever. However, during this time, one thing has remained unchanged: Symbolism.
For this reason, the first article ever published on The Vigilant Citizen (Sinister Sites: The Denver International Airport) is still as relevant today as it was a decade ago. Why? Because this site is not about the deceptive noise of words. It is about the silent truths of symbols.
Symbolism is the universal language of humanity. Contrarily to words, symbols cannot lie. By their very nature, symbols can only be exactly what they are. However, to fully grasp the true meaning of a symbol, one must first acquire the knowledge of what it is intended to mean.
In a single figure a symbol may both reveal and conceal, for to the wise the subject of the symbol is obvious, while to the ignorant the figure remains inscrutable.
– Manly P. Hall, The Secret Teaching of All Ages
Since its inception, The Vigilant Citizen has sought to provide the keys necessary to understand the true meaning of the symbols that surround us. While mass media and the Powers That Be use endless words to lull the masses into accepting a world of deceit, symbolism reveals the raw truth about who they are and what they’re about.
To celebrate The Vigilant Citizen’s decade of existence, here’s the Top 10 VC articles ever published (in no particular order).
